Yulong Huang is a contemporary Chinese sculptor. Firmly rooted in his era, he revises Chinese traditional art canons for modern audiences. The mastery he shows in his cristal mounted Buddhas, and hooded silhouettes reveal his classical training from Jingdezhen University. His works are an ode to urban culture.

Yulong’s works condense all the different trends that merged and clashed to forge contemporary Chinese society these last decades. Each character, including the Buddha, wears a hooded sweater – the ultimate emblem of street fashion. Huang created faceless characters to free his scultpures and viewers of “irrelevant” details. Thus, attitudes and emotions are the keys to his works.
