Mark Tennant creates dazzling daily life scenes engaging both figuration and abstraction through large brushstrokes. Tennant’s evanescent works have conquered private and public collections. The influence of academic French painting on his art shows in his characters’ modelling while there is no doubt about the era he depicts thanks to the details he represents.Tennant followed a classical training and received a B.F.A. from the Maryland Institute College of Art, in Baltimore, and an M.F.A. from the New York Academy of Art, in New York City.

Tennant held the position of Director of Graduate Fine Art Painting at the Academy of Art University, located in San Francisco. He had been an esteemed instructor at the acclaimed institution since 1998, bringing an array of knowledge, expertise, and talent to the students. In addition to his exceptional work at the Academy of Art, Tennant also taught Museum Copying at some of the world’s most renowned cultural institutions, including the Louvre in Paris, the Metropolitan in New York, and the Legion of Honor in San Francisco.
