Maurizio Galloro, a distinguished artist, unveils the essence of metropolises through captivating figurative works. He aptly refers to his canvases as “urban chronicles.”
Executed in oil paint using an alla prima knife technique, each piece reveals a subtle spectrum of grey hues accentuated by lush vegetation, alternating between green and red. His mastery of light and shadow play is evident across all his canvases, a homage to the great artists who have influenced him, spanning from the Impressionists to Caravaggio, Turner, and Soulages.
Maurizio’s passion for the visual arts manifested from a young age. At ten, he embarked on a fifteen-year journey in the workshop of a painter and sculptor in Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne, where he learned not only the secrets of oil painting but also the art of material manipulation and light dynamics, immersing himself fully in the world of fine arts.
In 2010, Maurizio made a bold decision to pause his professional career and dedicate himself entirely to painting. Since then, he has passionately crafted works that capture the vibrancy of cities, offering visually rich and emotionally evocative compositions. In his post-apocalyptic scenes, where nature triumphs over concrete, small visitors occupy space, infusing life and dynamism. They serve as a reflection of the viewer’s perspective, exploring this unknown universe.
Maurizio echoes a sentiment from Hopper, which serves as a “guiding principle” in his work: “If you could articulate it with words, there would be no need to paint.” Through his exceptional talent and unwavering determination, Maurizio leaves an indelible mark on the contemporary artistic landscape, showcasing nature’s triumphant resurgence over the concrete structures built by humans. In his interpretation of the real world, the warmth of lush vegetation seamlessly intertwines with the impersonal nature of urban landscapes.
